Q: How old does my child  have to be to participate in horseback ridding lessons?
A: We start children interacting with and riding horses as young as 3 years old. Depending on their attention span, lessons may go shorter or longer on any given day, but we always strive to make it a positive experience!  Our  biggest group of children are between the ages of 9-16 years old.

Q; Do i need any special equipment for taking lessons?
A: We ask that you always wear pants(jeans), a hard soled shoe/boot, and you must wear a riding helmet that is SEI approved. Applewood Farms does have helmets  for your first  lesson, but we do request that you to purchase one if you plan to continue to ride. At $30 - $50 dollars, we feel that you can find a nice helmet, and it is well worth the investment.  You can find them at: Farm & Fleet in Racine, WI, Dover Saddlery in Libertyville. Online at www.sstack.com, www.statelinetack.com, www.amazon.com, and many more. It must be a riding helmet.
If your child continues lessons . We will ask you to purchase Saddleseat style Jodfurs for show, and lesson pants can be jodfurs or breeches and half chaps with a short jodfur or paddock boot. We prefer no Tall Boots  or  Western boots for the lesson program.

Q. Do I need my own horse to take lessons?

A. No, you do not need your own horses. We have quite a few school horses from beginner to advance. You can ride with your brother , sister, friend, or mother. We have enough horses for all.

Q. Do you do trail rides?

A. Sorry we do not do trail rides. Our horses  are just to teach how to ride. Although, when you are advance  there are opprotunities for trailing riding if you share board on a horse.

Q. Do you have any opportunities for participating in shows.

A. We do local open shows, and  A & B shows, and Academy. There are plenty of opportunities to show if you would like, but there is no pressure to show. We are a pleasure and show barn. Half of our kids show, and half don't.

We try to have a schooling show once a year for those who would like to try with out the expense.
